We were thrilled to host an inspiring event with Ricky Robertson! His insights on trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive teaching captivated participants, sparking meaningful discussions about supporting students affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The energy in the room was incredible, and attendees left motivated with actionable strategies. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of community in fostering resilience and understanding among our students.

With the weather in our favor, families and students alike enjoyed lunch on upper campus on the first day of September.
The Back to School Ice Cream Social was a huge hit with families, students, and even pets enjoying a delicious treat! We appreciate all who came out to enjoy some ice cream and meet new Viking Warrior friends. A huge thank you to SSEF and those who helped scoop and sprinkle.
Back to School Night at Upper Campus was a tremendous success. We are fortunate to have high caliber educators who care deeply about students' leaning, and wellbeing. It is a great partnership when educators and families work together!
This past Wednesday, our upper campus staff completed device deployment for students. During this process, students were reminded of proper device etiquette and the importance of cyber safety. In addition, it was reiterated to students to use the STOPit! application any time they saw, heard, or experienced any form of harassment or bullying. Our Middle School Viking are set for learning!
Many wonderful things marked our first few days of school. The wonder on our littlest Viking Warrior faces, as we welcome for the first time 4year-olds to our Transitional Kinder. Our Back to School Night with our TK-2nd grade families brought many together to learn about classroom expectations for a successful school year, and a pastries with the principal gathered families in the gym to hear about the latest news about our school, especially the merger of our PTO and Solvang Arts and Music organizations into one Solvang School Education Foundation which will provide exciting family events and fundraisers throughout the year. We are thankful to families and staff for helping get the new school year off on the right foot! We will see you soon for our Upper Campus Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 23rd and our Grades 3-5 Back to School Night on September 6th.
Our Instructional Aides started their year on Wednesday, August 16th with professional learning that included workshops with our School Psychologist, Ms. Betz and our Lead Intervention Teacher, Ms. González. They also had a session on self care. We are thankful for the work of our Instructional Aides who wear many hats at our school!
Last week, our teachers participated in 2 days of professional learning, where Principal Peterson kicked off the school year with our theme of "Kindness Grows Here". Our teachers engaged in self care strategies thanks to our wonderful counselor Ms. Barajas and dove into new Science, Social Science, and English Language Development Curriculum with enthusiasm. Our teachers even received much needed laptops to carry out their important work. We are thankful for all who fed our staff over the two days, including, our own cafeteria staff and our Solvang School Education Foundation (SSEF)! We love our teachers!
