Dual Language Immersion Program
Solvang School District is proud to offer an optional Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program for incoming Kindergartners.
Solvang DLI students will achieve fluency and academic proficiency in two languages, attain high academic achievement and develop multicultural understanding to become culturally sensitive and meaningful engaged citizens for a 21st century global society.
Why DLI?
Early acquisition of a second language has a profound impact on intellectual growth, such as,
strengthens cognitive skills,
increases a student’s ability to adapt to other types of learning,
enhances creativity and problem-solving skills,
improves overall academic performance, and
can result in higher scores on standardized tests.
Philosophy
Solvang Elementary School District’s DLI Program is taught by fully credentialed teachers and adheres to the California Common Core Standards in all subjects. Students are instructed in English and Spanish in grades K-5. Literacy will begin in both languages, for the language of instruction will be strictly divided during the day by time and/or content. At the beginning levels students may respond in either language, but the teachers will only speak and instruct in English or in the target language, as designated.
How to Apply
Many families are interested in our Dual Language Immersion program. DLI applications are typically accepted between mid-January and late February for the following school year. Besides completing kindergarten enrollment, a separate DLI application is required to be completed. We are currently not accepting DLI Applications for the upcoming school year but the links below will provide details.
